Bagaetsho dumelang!
At the outset, let me thank the Rail Park Branch team for inviting me to this very important event, and thank each and everyone of you here for gracing this occasion.
We are here this evening to witness and most importantly to salute 32 upcoming entrepreneurs from the Kgwebo ya Monana program. As the name says it, is a youth program wherein our future as a Country lies. Grooming and nurturing youth is in itself taking part in the development of the Country through socio economic integration, it is as necessary and critical as taking each breath. The global stage is open for us to play and we can only do so with a learned and enterprising youth that is an active player in the mainstream economy at base.
This graduation ceremony is dubbed “Emerging entrepreneurs from the Kgwebo Ya Monana program”
I am informed that Rail Park Branch partnered with Career Coaching Botswana, a social enterprise run by other young people who designed an intensive entrepreneurship development intervention.
I am particularly very impressed with this project, because it resonates with what I advocate and believe in, in terms of uplifting the wellbeing of a nation through training its youth.
Career Coaching entity I want to believe, are young enthusiastic upcoming gurus in upskilling other youth, they saw it fit to address a gap in the weak enterprising aptitude especially among citizens and rolled up their sleeves and actively taking upon themselves to teach one another, share with one another, mentor one another, and upskill each other. Career Coaching you are best placed to investigate, interrogate, fact find, and play the roles because you are right in the mix, youth issues are your issues!!! AKERE? Ngwana o ruta ngwana!
Turning to you RailPark Team,
You have satisfied all the pillars of the Staff Volunteer program namely:
o Innovative Community Driven Solutions
o Maximum staff engagement
o Skills sharing
o Strategic partnerships
I am reliably informed that staff members were leading the program from inception to completion. Director of Ceremonies, Ladies and Gentlemen, these men and women facilitated sessions and peer mentored the participants with passion.
Furthermore, the project also made use of the skillsets across the Bank from various departments. I want to believe you and Career Coaching were a match made in heaven!
Feedback from the Foundation administration suggested impressive results on this project’s progress and impact. Perhaps that is why it attracted attention through digital and traditional media platforms, well done Team!
Applaud yourselves!!!
With this level of effectiveness and commitment: and hopefully with impact arising out of this node…We are destined to achieve the developmental role that the youth of Botswana will play in realizing of our national development initiatives.
The journey is only beginning, keep on doing the great work, your impact will be long lasting and you will witness the fruits of your labour in these young people many years to come! Then you will look back with gratitude and say YES I did make an impact (today at 60 I look back with gratitude over what I have invested in my 16years of service at the Botswana Development Corporation)!!!
Through the mentoring phase, you will I am sure, fall in love with these young entrepreneurs because you will continue to learn from them, they will be your partners and you their partners and therefrom sustain lasting networks because in the process you will continue to build networks and more networks and further networks (my secret: my success lies in my network)
To you, young people, it is up to you to make use of what you learnt on this journey and change your lives which will in turn impact positively on your families your communities your country and globally for the better. There is nothing wrong in exporting to China as we are importing 80% of our consumption from elsewhere, you can do the import substitution that we le bo Rre Moleele have been chasing till date.
We are looking at you to harness the opportunities that are before you and carry our country forward. Business dynamics are vast and diverse, you will continue to learn at every turn, never give in when the going gets tough because it will and it does get tough …rather apply yourself, network with others in the same boat and hand hold each other. Don’t lose contact with one another …DO NOT lose your networks. I repeat for effect that in my years of service my biggest asset and my most productive asset is my network
Be the go getters we need for Botswana’s prosperity.
In 2017, the Trustees of the FNBB Foundation reviewed the Foundation strategy to remain relevant to the needs of the Communities we serve, youth related challenges came up as a one area that needed intervention fast, especially in relation to the shrunk job opportunities and the need to innovate and be creative in sustainable business ventures, the private sector bagaetsho is the engine of growth, it is the only way to achieve sustainable economic independence.
The formula is thus: Government provides an enabling environment / It is for the Private sector to deliver jobs that is deliver on that mandate of Government; the platform is yours and it is for you to put Government’s mananeo to productive use, / from your delivery, societal obligations will be satisfied, in turn that same society as your market will support you… and stability is achieved!
Through the Foundation FNB has played a meaningful role in giving back to the Communities we serve and remains a major player in the social responsibility space, to date the Foundation has applied up to P40million to the needs of Batswana in various sectors.
Rail Park Branch has fulfilled a part of our mission by bringing you young businessmen and women together into the FNBB family’s success story. So let’s partner, use this opportunity productively, choose wisely, act responsibly…the future is bright!
